How to prepare
Do some research on the given theme to get a broad idea of what is expected from you and to really get a good idea of what the theme is about and all the ways it can be interpreted. Then make a mood board with colour pallets, textures, and ideas you would like to incorporate. Once you have that done you need to do a body chart to get the best placements for each and every design, to make your art piece as coherent as possible. A key element to a great body paint or creation is precise design placement. When you are happy with the overall look of your design, start playing around with colours and textures that will give your art extra dimension.
Before competition day you want to make sure every element you want to incorporate will work practically, e.g. fabrications should be checked beforehand to see if they work practically. Make sure the model can see, walk and that nothing falls off from being too heavy. You don’t want to do this on the day as too much can go wrong with no time to fix it. If you are doing prosthetics or glues, make sure to patch test you model in advance to make sure that she or he are not allergic to anything as this is not acceptable on the day.
