Global Wellness Day:
The connection between humanity and the natural world
How will you celebrate GWD 2024 on 8 June?
Global Wellness Day is celebrated every 2nd Saturday in June and promotes wellness for all. It is the one day we can promote wellness for all around the world.
South African Global Wellness Day Ambassadors Feroza Fakir and Noli Mini shared this year’s GWD 2024 Theme #MagantaNature with us.
The focus is on the connection between humanity and the natural world, advocating for a comprehensive approach to wellbeing and peace.
#MagentaNature symbolises a journey of reconnection with nature and peacefulness.
This year, as Global Wellness Day Ambassadors and volunteers around the world invite everyone to live a life in harmony with nature.
Here’s how Global Wellness Day will unfold its commitment:
We will start by celebrating the theme #MagentaNature and encourage an embrace of #MagentaNature by promoting access to nature for all and remind everyone of the profound connection between thoughts and nature. Additionally, we will be highlighting the healing effects of a nature-centric lifestyle, empowering kids through nature and we will be spreading the #MagentaNature philosophy worldwide.
What can you do?
01 Eat Natural
Transform each meal into a vibrant celebration of nature’s bounty by embracing the nourishing power of natural foods to rejuvenate both body and spirit. Opt for locally sourced, organic ingredients, and contemplate organising community gatherings such as Farm-to-Table Feasts or cooking workshops cantered around wholesome, natural fare.
02 Be in Nature
Escape into the captivating embrace of the outdoors, where serenity awaits to replenish and rekindle your spirit. Inhale the crisp, invigorating air as nature’s harmonious melodies serenade your senses. Explore the possibility of guided nature walks, indulge in outdoor yoga retreats, partake in family nature events, or venture on photography expeditions to fully immerse yourself in the breathtaking wonders of the natural world.
03 Protect Nature
Take on the role of an environmental steward by integrating eco-conscious choices and sustainable habits into your everyday routine. Prioritise recycling and actively engage in initiatives aimed at preserving our planet, such as environmental cleanup efforts, sustainability workshops, tree planting initiatives, and challenges cantered around sustainable living. Let your actions reflect your commitment to safeguarding the environment for future generations.
04 Be in Nature (Spiritual)
Immerse yourself in the tranquillity of meditation, mindful reflection, or moments of serene stillness amidst the beauty of the natural world to synchronise your inner being with the rhythm of nature. Explore opportunities to deepen this connection through events designed to nurture mindfulness and appreciation for the environment, such as nature meditation retreats, mindful nature art sessions, forest bathing workshops, discussions on nature-inspired yoga philosophy, or contemplative labyrinth walks in serene natural settings. Allow these experiences to cultivate a profound sense of harmony between yourself and the world around you.

Environ Steals the Show At Aesthetic Everything Awards 2024
Environ’s dedication to consistent innovation and science has been duly recognised with not one, but three prestigious awards at the international Aesthetic Everything® Aesthetic and Cosmetic Medicine Awards in the USA. Two pioneering advancements, Environ Cool Peel® Technology and Environ Electro-Sonic Ionzyme® DF Technology, were crowned winners in the “Best Medical Peels” and “Best in Class Professional Treatment Machine” categories for 2024, respectively. The accolades didn’t stop there, Environ clinched an impressive hat trick by claiming the coveted “Top Medical Skin Care Line” award for the seventh consecutive year.
The commendation for Cool Peel Technology comes as Environ commemorates 30 years of the ground-breaking technological innovation, developed by Dr Des Fernandes. The technology is a revolutionary, non-invasive, intelligent approach to skin peeling that safely and effectively helps to visibly brighten the appearance of skin. While traditional approaches to skin peeling are based on the destruction of skin cells, Environ’s Cool Peel Technology works to support the effects of the natural processes of healthy skin. Winning “Best in Class Professional Treatment Machine”, Environ Electro-Sonic Ionzyme® DF Technology, also pioneered by Dr Des Fernandes, was the first in the world to combine low frequency Sonophoresis and pulsed Iontophoresis. Harnessing the power of both technologies speeds up and intensifies the treatment effect significantly, allowing Environ’s result-driven formulations to be more effective, making a real lasting difference to skin, for life. With over 1 million subscribers, Aesthetic Everything® is the largest network of aesthetic professionals in the world. Their annual awards are a global event which started in 2008 and encompasses a range of categories. The Aesthetic Everything Awards is one of the most prestigious ceremonies globally recognising both the people and the companies that the industry, patients and clients love the most.
Environ is a globally recognised and loved Professional Skin Care brand that is built on science, beauty, and care. Environ believes that skin has a life, and that vitamin A is the “oxygen” it needs to look beautiful and healthy for life. It is for this reason that the brand actively pursues skincare science to skillfully and consistently develop innovative products that work with skin.
Environ Group Chairman Val Carstens says “It is indeed a great honour as Chairman to receive these three incredible awards. A brother and sister partnership are indeed overwhelmed to also receive the incredible honour of Top Medical Skin Care Line for the seventh consecutive year. Congratulations to my brother, Des, for being honoured for his Cool Peel and the DF Ionzyme Technology. It is also a wonderful and inspiring achievement of the years of research and development of our extensive range of products. The passion, commitment and hard work of the Environ Team as well as our Distributors worldwide striving to meet our vision of creating a world where beautiful skin is the norm and not the exception, and awards like these make the journey completely worthwhile.”
Dr Des Fernandes, Founder & Scientific Director says, “I am deeply honoured by these exceptional awards, which acknowledge Environ’s original concepts and research: firstly, to deal with the physiological changes of photoaging; secondly, to remove the scarring associated with most of the treatments to smoothen photoaged skin, and finally to establish treatments to enhance the penetration of active molecules that work synergistically with natural physiology in order to return skin to its more youthful state. In the beginning we were ridiculed for these ideas, but we’ve persisted for nearly 30 years in believing the science and natural chemistry to rehabilitate skin.”

Regulatory compliance regarding international qualifications offered in South Africa
The South African Association of Health and Skincare Professionals (SAAHSP), a South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) recognised professional body for the Skin, Body, and Nailcare sector, urgently emphasises the need for adherence to regulatory standards regarding international qualifications offered within South Africa.
• In accordance with the Higher Education Act 101 of 1997, it is imperative to understand that any training provider offering foreign qualifications within South Africa must be registered as a private higher education provider offering a qualification/s registered on the South African National Qualifications Framework (NQF). Failure to comply with this regulation renders such providers illegal.
• The National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Act, 67 of 2008, applies to all education programmes or learning programmes leading to qualifications or part-qualifications offered in South Africa by an education institution or a skills development provider and every or any qualification or part-qualification must be registered on the NQF. Failure to comply with this regulation renders such training illegal.
• Institutions offering programmes leading to qualifications registered on the NQF, which incorporates the specific outcomes of the International Therapy Examination Council (iTEC) and the Comité International d’Esthétique et de Cosmétologie (CIDESCO) qualifications may allow their students to undertake the iTEC and CIDESCO membership examinations, however it essential to note that the iTEC and CIDESCO qualifications are NOT recognised on the South African NQF and for that matter may not be recorded on the National Learner Records Database (NLRD).
• Students holding the iTEC and CIDESCO qualifications who wish to apply for a designation through SAAHSP, must first apply to SAQA for a Certificate of Evaluation to have their qualification compared to a South African equivalent. This step is indispensable for eligibility for a designation through SAAHSP.
SAAHSP reiterates its unwavering commitment to maintaining standards and safeguarding the integrity of qualifications within the beauty industry. We urgently implore all stakeholders, including providers and students, to align with regulatory requirements to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and excellence.
