THE MET GALA 2024: SLEEPING BEAUTIES: Reawakening Fashion
As we reflect on the splendour of the evening, let us carry forward the spirit of collaboration and inclusivity that permeated the 2024 Met Gala, using it as a beacon of hope and inspiration in our quest for a more connected and compassionate world.
Fondly dubbed as “fashion’s grandest soirée,” the Met Gala 2024 stands as a charitable fundraiser benefitting the renowned Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Traditionally scheduled for the first Monday in May each year, this esteemed event plays host to a dazzling array of stars, emerging talents, and industry luminaries. Marking its presence on Monday, May 6, the 2024 edition of the Met Gala commemorated the debut of the Costume Institute’s latest exhibition titled “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” Steering the event as co-chairs were notable personalities including Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez, Anna Wintour, and Zendaya.
In 2023, the Met Gala paid tribute to the iconic fashion figure Karl Lagerfeld, a familiar face at The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute. Preceding this homage, the Costume Institute had embarked on its inaugural two-part exhibition series focusing on American fashion during 2021 and 2022. The first segment, titled “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” debuted at the Anna Wintour Costume Centre on September 18, 2021, while the second instalment, “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” unveiled on May 5, 2022, within the period rooms of the American Wing.
