The age old conundrum – how do I make my business stand out in a cluttered market – is something that all salons need to address so as to grow and thrive. Luckily, in this issue, we have an article on that very topic written by a beauty business expert. Choosing a niche is essential, says the expert, as is identifying your unique selling proposition. Very useful in this process is considering your target market customer’s perspective.
It is rapidly approaching that time of the year when the flagship Professional Beauty Johannesburg Expo takes place (3 & 4 September, Gallagher Convention Centre), where a plethora of leading brands in the beauty, nails, spa and aesthetics industry will be showcasing their latest brands. Alongside this exciting event is the World Spa & Wellness Convention and I’m delighted to report that as our opening keynote speaker, we have secured the legendary Ian Fuhr, founder and former CEO of the Sorbet Group. Fuhr will present on a topic important to all businesses, the link between service and culture, taking into account South Africa’s socio-political and economic realities. We have conducted an in-depth interview with Fuhr, which you can read in this issue.
Homegrown brands are so important in any country’s economy, one reason being that they are available at a more affordable price point than imported goods. In this issue we put the focus on South African beauty and nail brands.
