A new report by AI provider and AR beauty tech solutions company, Perfect Corp., reveals that neutral nail shades are the most requested and tried on across many markets.
Perfect Corp. analysed big data sourced from its YouCam Nails app from October 2022 to March 2023 to identify the biggest nail trends of the year. The app features thousands of AR-powered filters that allow users to virtually try-on nail colour and nail art effects in real time. It reportedly accumulates over 7 million virtual nail colour try-ons per year.
Interestingly, the report categorises black as a neutral tone (albeit an edgier one) and found that this is the colour that took top spot in the survey. This is attributed to the increasing number of celebrities sporting black nails at red carpet events.
Other neutral tones to feature strongly in the report were Pearl White and Sand.
In terms of actual colours, red nails proved very popular, in shades such as Cherry, Crimson and Sparkle Red. These strong, bright shades were particularly popular across the Middle East regions.
High shine, metallic and chrome tones such as Metallic Rose Gold, Foil Gold, and Foil Silver were also observed among the top 10 most tried-on nail colours globally.
In terms of textures, cream nail polish was the top tried-on texture across all global markets, followed by jelly, matte and sheer nail colour formulas.
