Body work

As summer approaches, an increasing number of clients will invest in noninvasive body sculpting and cellulite treatments. Advancements in these areas have resulted in a wave of innovative techniques for topical and machinebased options for those wanting to improve their body tone and ideals. If you haven’t done so already, now is the time to equip your business with products and services that will enable you to meet this growing demand.

Stay competitive this summer by staying informed about the latest non-invasive body sculpting products and machines that can meet or exceed your clients’ needs and expectations. Some clients may be aware of these options, and that is angood opportunity for you to recommend products and services and grow your revenue. From butt lifts and thigh gaps to flabby arms and tummy rolls, there is a non-invasive treatment to rectify these problem areas.

As always, it’s best to do your homework first, and we have done some research that will help to get you started or simply boost your existing knowledge. This includes products and machines that will be an effortless sell to your clients.

Improving core muscle strength

HI-FEM (high-intensity focused electromagnetic muscle) technology can build, firm and tone muscle and burn fat, improving appearance. It uses a powerful but harmless form of electromagnetic stimulation to contract the muscles at a rate that would not be possible through physical exercise. It targets and focusses on the muscle being treated 100%, meaning it is more effective than many other body contouring treatments.

The treatments work to improve and strengthen the core muscles and can improve wellness in some clients, making it especially beneficial to clients who have desk jobs. What’s more, there is low risk and no downtime, there are no requirements for major preor post-treatment care, and there is no pain.

Impressive results and no downtime

Electro-muscle stimulation (EMS) has come a long way since the 1980s and 1990s. Back then, heavy belts fixed with velcro, designed to tone the wearer’s abdominal muscles, often applied muscle-building and fat-reduction technology, promising the same effects as an intense ab workout.

Now, leading manufacturers of non-invasive body-contouring devices have adopted and enhanced the basic concept of EMS to offer patients impressive results with no downtime and minimal to no discomfort during treatment.

A 2016 study by Wolfgang Kemmler et al (Effects of WholeBody Electromyostimulation versus High-Intensity Resistance Exercise on Body Composition and Strength) compared the effects of 16 weeks’ whole-body EMS with high-intensity resistance exercise on body composition and strength and observed “comparable or at least similar increases of muscle parameters” between the methods. The study’s authors concluded that EMS can be considered a time-efficient and effective option for people seeking to improve body composition.

Six® Aesthetics’ Cyrotec Fat Freeze machine.

Since then, many device manufacturers have had their own studies carried out, demonstrating results for a broader range of indications. A study on the Truesculpt Flex device, for example, recorded an average of 30% increase in muscle mass and a modest reduction in fat thickness 12 weeks after a course of up to six treatments, while a study for BTL’s EMSculpt showed an average 18.6% reduction in abdominal fat thickness and 15.4% increase in abdominal muscle mass two months after four 30-minute sessions.

Getting rid of fat cells

Since it is non-invasive and yields promising results, cryolipolysis (fat freezing) technology has been a popular alternative to liposuction. The procedure involves cooling fat cells to a temperature that triggers their natural death and eventual elimination by the body. Six Aethetics’ Cryotec Fat Freeze uses cryolipolysis technology to reduce the number of fat cells in treated areas by about 20 to 25%.

The procedure takes between 40 and 60 minutes, with sensitivity and slight numbness lasting for up to seven days. The recommended number of treatments is three to six, and the long-term results are visible after three to four weeks.

The treatment works on thigh area, buttock and localised fatty deposits; lower belly and back fat rolls; and fatty knees.

Stay on trend and offer combinations

The latest trend in body sculpting and cellulite treatments is combining machine-based and topical methods for enhanced results. A combination of radiofrequency, cryolipolysis, and laser treatments, along with a regimen of advanced topical products, can be incorporated into personalised treatment plans to simultaneously target fat reduction and skin tightening. This holistic approach leads to more noticeable, long-lasting results.

We have touched on some of the machine-based options available; now let’s look at topical treatments.

Spalicious tackles cellulite with a range of treatments

What many people don’t realise is that cellulite is a skin disorder and not a fat disease. It’s a result of damage to micro-circulation and could be caused by toxins or hormones or could be hereditary. The best results when treating cellulite are achieved when the problem areas are approached both internally and externally.

Spalicious cellulite treatment represents five years of dedicated research and development focused correcting the appearance of dimpled skin resembling orange peel, emphasising that it is not a weight loss or centimeter reduction programme. The result is a three-step programme to reduce cellulite which Spacilious markets as its Cellulite Fix Kit.

Cellulite/light legs treatment starts with a thorough exfoliation enhances circulation and primes the skin for deep penetration of vital active ingredients. The Orange Butter Cellulite Scrub contains grapefruit see extract, orange butter and orange peel wax. Benefits include salt and sugar combination results in an intensive scrub. Orange butter makes the texture buttery to help massage the scrub into the skin. Removes dead skin and stimulates circulation.

The next step is to alternate hot and cold applications promotes blood vessel dilation and constriction, facilitating improved lymphatic flow in deeper skin layers. Sweet fennel oil is used during a vigorous massage to aid in breaking down hardened fat cells and eliminating toxins.

The Sweet Fennel Cellulite Draining Oil is not suitable for used on pregnant women and people suffering from epilepsy, but contains centella asiatica, sweet fennel oil, cypress oil, black pepper and grapefruit seed oil. This light texture oil to massage into the skin with anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties that improves circulation.

The next step is the application of Orange and Ivy contour cream, enriched with active ingredients that visibly firm the skin by up to 57% and stimulate lipolysis for smoother, firmer skin texture. It includes caffeine, coleus forskohlii root, essential boost factor (green algae and white lupin), and phytelene EGX257 (ivy, horsetail and ladies mantle). It has been clinically proven to firm the skin by 57% and acts as fat burner (lipolysis), while boosting collagen and elastin.

These steps are then followed by the Spacilious Cellulite Melting Wrap, a powerful treatment designed to smooth, and tone affected areas. The potent benefits of astragalus root cellulite heating gel include its ability to heat up and target cellulite effectively by enhancing circulation, support collagen production, reduce the appearance of cellulite and promote detoxification.

Clients can choose to relax further with either a soothing scalp massage or rejuvenating foot massage while their bodies are wrapped, allowing the gel to work its magic. After a refreshing shower to rinse off the heating gel, finish with an application of Vitamin A Body Shaping Gel, leaving skin feeling firm and revitalised.

These steps must be followed in the correct order and at the correct time for them to be effective.
