Turn trends into profit
Pantone has announced its highly anticipated Colour of the Year for 2025, unveiling Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse as the shade that will shape design trends over the next 12 months.

We started seeing chocolate brown nails becoming hot in 2022 thanks to Hayley Bieber’s glazed chocolate manicures that kicked off a viral trend. The star was back at it again recently making another seasonal nail trend with the ‘maple syrup manicure,’ which we predict will be a big nail trend towards the end of 2024 and throughout 2025.
Says Amber Habana, the owner and CEO of Tips and Hues, who is also a nail artist and influencer on TikTok and Facebook, “As the beauty industry continues to evolve, 2025 promises to be an exciting year for nail enthusiasts. From cutting-edge nail art to innovative lacquer formulations, this year’s trends reflect a blend of creativity, sustainability, and personalisation. Leading the charge is the Pantone colour of the year, Mocha Mousse — a warm, soft brown inspired by the comforting hues of chocolate and coffee.”
She says that in 2025, less is more. Minimalist nail art is taking centre stage, with designs that emphasise clean lines, negative space and subtle accents. Think geometric shapes, delicate outlines and micro-French tips. “Shades like chrome silver, rose gold, and iridescent hues are being paired with bold patterns for a 3D effect. These looks are perfect for those who want their nails to be a statement accessory.”
She explains that Mocha Mousse is set to redefine neutral tones in nail art. This warm, soft brown exudes sophistication and pairs beautifully with a range of other shades, from creamy nudes to vibrant jewel tones. Mocha Mousse is particularly versatile, transitioning effortlessly from boardroom polish to weekend chic.
The gel extension revolution
One of the most anticipated trends for 2025 is the rise of gel extensions. Celebrated for their time efficiency and durability, gel extensions provide a sturdy base that allows for intricate nail art to shine. Unlike the plain nude nails that dominated 2024, gel extensions offer clients more creative freedom and reduce the time spent on regular upkeep. This trend is perfect for busy clients who still want show-stopping nails.
“At Tips and Hues, we’ve seen firsthand how gel extensions are transforming the nail industry. As a white label wholesale company, we pride ourselves on importing only the best products under our brand, Le Chat, and making them accessible through our social media presence and online store,” Amber says. “Our high-quality gel extensions empower salons to deliver superior results while staying ahead of the curve. New formulations prioritise long-lasting wear, quick drying times, and chip resistance without compromising on safety. Brands are also investing in eco-friendly lacquers, using plant-based ingredients and recyclable packaging to cater to an increasingly environmentally conscious audience.”
The power of AI in nail art
Artificial intelligence is revolutionising the nail industry, enabling faster and more precise designs. Smart nail printers can now produce intricate patterns and designs in minutes, offering both convenience and creativity. This technology is making high-quality nail art accessible to a wider audience.

Going green
Last year was proclaimed a Barbie summer and in 2024 it was declared Brat Girl Summer. Instead of the world being painted pink, we saw it set ablaze with acid lime green thanks to Charlie XCX’s album sensation Brat.
“It’s the more ‘Matrixy’ end of the Y2K fashion era and personally I’m so glad the Barbie aesthetic is over” says Ellie Bebbington, trend forecasting enthusiast and owner of cutting-edge salon Doll Parts in Manchester in the UK.
Nathan Taylor, Bristol-based nail tech famed for his creativity, adds, “The LGBTQ+ community are already hot on the lime green nails trend and I’ve been asked a few times since Brat being released to colour match for nails. Queer and trans people are usually at the forefront of trends and I can see this one trickling down to the mainstream.”
While acid green is not for everyone, this subcultural shade will likely drip down into the general zeitgeist by autumn/winter by way of a “clean girl” skinny French or mixed with black for edgy geometric manicures.
“I think in general we are going to go a bit more geometric,” says Bebbington. “I can see shapes going rounded square paired with geometric nail art in this acid lime – that would be really cool.”
Another movie release that has capitalised on colour is Wicked, which has seen both of these mega marketing moments collide almost bringing Brat and Barbie together while the world is painted pink and green. We predict that winter nails will reflect this, after all, “pink goes good with green” and many are taking inspiration from Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba-coded red carpet looks.
OPI’s shades turn nails into art!
While quiet luxury and minimalist nails dominated over the past 12 months, more maximalist designs are coming in 2025. From TikTok-viral techniques like cat eye nails to polished colours (brown nails aren’t going anywhere, FYI) the nail trends of 2025 strike a perfect balance between nostalgia and futurism. Think chrome metallics, Y2K nail art and embellishments and 3D charms that are works of art. The focus is on individuality, and your nails are the canvas.
Autumn and winter will see shiny metallics, bold neutrals, rich rusty reds, and deep, dark hues. Explore our curated selection of the top six OPI shades, featuring Infinite Shine, nail polish, and nail strengtheners, designed to keep nails looking stunning throughout the cold weather.

Tickled Pinque
Cyber jewel tones
Chrome nail art has been a top trend for more than five years now – just when we think eye-catching chromes are out, they find their way back. While we saw a lot of silver and gold metallic nails on the catwalks for A/W24, these are not the only shiny shades you should expect clients to be craving.
“I think the chrome trend is going to go jewel toned – like stained glass window colours,” says Bebbington.
This we can see reflected in last year’s fashion collections of some of the biggest nail brands like OPI’s Metallic Mega Mix collection, the brand’s most extensive line of metal shades yet, which will help chrome powder-hating techs achieve looks quicker and with less mess. The shades Y2Slay, Lip Pink Battle and Cosmo Money are great for jewel-toned manis.

New things about lacquers
The nail care industry has seen remarkable innovations, particularly in the realm of lacquers. These developments not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of nails but also address health and longevity concerns, says Avané Ernest, sole distributor of Tickled Pinque.
“Among the most notable advancements are long-lasting formulations, breathable lacquers, non-toxic and vegan options, color-changing polishes, strengthening lacquers, and products designed for those with fungal nail infections.”
Here are some interesting trends to keep in mind:
• Gel and hybrids: One of the most significant breakthroughs in nail lacquers is the creation of gel and hybrid polishes. These formulations combine the durability of gel with the easy application of traditional polish. Cured under LED or UV light, these lacquers can last up to two to three weeks without chipping, offering a convenient and long-lasting solution for busy individuals.
• Breathable lacquers: These lacquers allow oxygen and moisture to permeate the nail, reducing the risk of brittleness and encouraging healthier nail beds. This innovation addresses common concerns about nail damage from prolonged wear of traditional polishes.
• Non-toxic and vegan options: As consumers become more aware of the potential harm of chemicals in personal care products, many nail lacquer brands are shifting towards non-toxic and vegan options. These lacquers are free from harmful substances like formaldehyde, toluene, and dibutyl phthalate, and many brands are also promoting cruelty-free alternatives. The rise of “10-free” and “15-free” formulations reflects a growing demand for safer, more ethical beauty products.
• Colour-changing polishes: Colour-changing polishes have also taken the nail care world by storm.
Thermochromic and photochromic lacquers, which shift colors based on temperature or UV exposure, offer a fun and dynamic way to customize nail looks. These polishes add a playful touch to manicures and allow for unique, interactive designs.
• Strengthening and repairing: In addition to cosmetic enhancements, there are innovations in strengthening and repairing lacquers. These products are enriched with ingredients like keratin, vitamins, and nourishing oils such as argan or jojoba. They are designed to fortify weak or brittle nails, promoting healthier, more resilient nails over time.
• Nail art: Magnetic polishes that create cat-eye effects, as well as holographic and chrome finishes, are popular choices for individuals looking to make a bold statement with their nails. These lacquers open up new creative possibilities for those interested in nail design.
• Medicated lacquers: Advancements have been made in medicated lacquers for onychomycosis, or fungal nail infections. These therapeutic lacquers contain active antifungal agents like amorolfine or ciclopirox, which help clear infections while also protecting the nails. Some of these lacquers come in clear or tinted formulas, allowing users to mask imperfections while undergoing treatment. Recent innovations in drug delivery systems have made these lacquers more effective, providing better penetration and faster results.
“The evolution of nail lacquers has transformed the beauty and health of nails, offering solutions that are both functional and fashionable. With a focus on long-lasting wear, nail health, and innovative design, the future of nail lacquers is undoubtedly bright,” says Avané.
