HOW WELL ROUNDED ARE YOU?
If a client walked in through your doors, are you able to professionally service their needs regardless of what system they may ask for? Or do you turn them away because you are unable to assist them in ‘that’ system?
Today, many nail techs assist clients in such a scenario by convincing them to apply a different system completely. It is commendable to a certain point because it shows you do not want to lose the client, but what if their lifestyle is not compatible with the system that you as the professional ‘prefer’ to apply? In other words, will your client’s medium-long gel nails support her rock-climbing hobby?
If you find that new clients are not returning for a follow up appointment, it’s time to figure out why. Ask yourself, do I have the knowledge and skills needed for all nail systems available in the market? Am I a well-rounded nail technician in my field?
While it’s true that we may not use some systems as often as others that are available on the market, you don’t want to lose a client because you couldn’t offer what they initially wanted. From the first point of contact, discuss all the available options and explain the benefits of each system with a non-biased opinion.
Wealth of knowledge
With today’s technology our clients have access to all the knowledge in the world via the internet. The moment they walk in the door, clients usually have a very good idea of what they want. So how can we gain their trust and respect them for their decisions?
1. Invest in education Know your field and know it well. The industry changes so quickly and if we as techs don’t keep up, we will misinform our clients, miss out on possible revenue opportunities, or fall completely behind in techniques and technology.
By educating ourselves we show clients that we are willing to learn, grow and stay on trend with our exciting industry. Remember, clients want to have their nails done by someone who is known to be up to date and trendy.
2. Sharing is caring By sharing what we know and offering our professional opinion and solution for our clients, they will trust our judgement more than Google itself. This is how we build a relationship and gain their respect. By being honest about the pros and cons of each system (and don’t be fooled – all systems have cons), our clients will be able to make an objective decision.
3. The follow-up Ask yourself, how would I like to be treated? Every client that we assist should feel special, especially when it’s a new client. When we follow up, not only are we servicing them, but we are saying to our clients, “I am here! I want to help YOU because I care about your nails”.
The client will automatically be impressed by this attentiveness, more likely support you and in the long run, remain loyal. This translates to a full appointment book. In other words, more ‘Ching Ching’ in our pockets.
So, ‘Naillies’, what do you say? Are YOU willing to be well rounded?
