April was a positive month for many nail salons and nail techs – a significant 55% of you reported improved nail treatment business compared to the same month last year, while 36% saw stable performance and only 9% experienced a decline. In terms of retail, 36% of businesses noted better sales, 45% stayed the same and 18% faced reduced sales, compared with figures from April last year.
There are a variety of retail options available for nail businesses. This month’s survey revealed that hand creams and lotions are the most popular option, being retailed by 76% of you, while cuticle oils (64%) and nail care kits (27%) were also mentioned. This shows the value of educating clients about at-home nail care in order to maintain the health of their nails in between salon appointments. The people who participated represent a cross-section of the industry and were polled by email and social media from May 2 to May 14, regarding business for the month to April 30. Nail business for the Insider Nails page was calculated from data provided by salons that offer nail services among other treatments. The figures given represent the average score for each answer. Brands are ranked when mentioned by several respondents.
